Myths
There are a few speculations on why or how the Kitsune came to be. They were first thought to be simple fox demons, but now they are classified in a race all their own by the higher classes that keep records simply for the fact that there are so many variations of the Kitsune and also have been graced by the God Inari and Goddess Novia.
Legend has it that the two Gods had a child and were roaming the spirit realm with their said child but was then swept away and stolen by a spiritual fox named Kitsu (this name meaning the sound that a fox makes). Inari and Novia knew that they would not be able to persuade the fox to give their child back nor would they be able to catch up with the fox in time to save their child, so they simply bound the two together and in joining them, caused a new creature to be created and thus, the Kitsune race was started.

The Goddess Novia and the God Inari were always rival lovers and in their eternal battle for dominance, they finally decided instead of fighting with each other, they would each choose a type of avatar to be their warrior and would imbue them with whatever powers of gifts they saw fit. The Goddess seemed fit to gift her warrior with the power of Black Flames produced by a gem she won in a bet from an Eternal. The God Inari gifts his warrior with the Fushimi Mirror, which is as an indivisible cloak surrounding the owner and is manifested and sustained by said owners energy. When the two avatars finally meet (as chosen by the fates) they will have one final battle in which a victor is decided and the battle for dominance is yet resumed again with two new Kitsunes blessed by the rival gods.
Description
Kitsune's, like most non-humans are a long lived species, up to around 900 years. At around year 50, they are equivalent to the human teen-aged male or female, while they reach 100 years , are at the young human adult age, and then reaching 175 years they are comparable to a full human adult in their appearance and remain that way until around year 800 and then begin to show their age, as most Kitsunes do not make it past the 900 year age.
While most Kitsune's are sparsely scattered throughout the Atani, there is one place they are centrally located; Youko Naruhai: the temple of their God and Goddess, Inari and Novia. This city is generally centered around the palace like shrine of the two deities. A medium sized city that is geared specifically towards Kitsune's and as such, it is uncommon to find any non Kitsune races there.
Their Beliefs
Some things the Kitsune believe in:
Kitsune aid each otherKitsune respond to what they see around them. When a Kitsune sees what they consider an act against their code of ethics, they will aggravate the situation. They will respond favorable to what they consider a ‘moral’ act. Also, if a Kitsune is treated well, they will respond in kind, and may even go out of their way to aid a friend. Adversely, if they are treated poorly, they become extremely spiteful. Kitsune try to follow their promises and personal word of honor. It is very unlikely that a Kitsune would somehow break his word and if did, would most definitely repay the wronged victim tenfold.Kitsune will not accept unwilling charity. Those who wish to help the Kitsune must do so of their own free will. Kitsune are loathe to ask for help and will not accept help that is not freely given.Kitsune are emotional are very vengeful. Kitsune will lose their temper at the slightest provocation. Once someone has earned a Kitsune’s enmity, the Kitsune will begin in enacting revenge that can become quite extreme. On the other hand, those who have earned a Kitsune’s trust and loyalty will see a friendship that can last through many trials. Freedom is very important to the Kitsune. They do not accept being forced into something they do not wish and do not like being bound or trapped. Doing so will weaken the Kitsune, almost as if draining his energy. Types
These are all generalities of Kitsune and while this is a rough guide to how Kitsune behave and act, their behavior is most influenced by the type of Kitsune they are.
Wind - Flighty, these Kitsune are wanderers, never staying one place for long.This study allows the user to create winds, cause tornadoes, and influence local weather patterns with ice and snow manipulation also falling into this category.
Earth - Solid and unyielding, these Kitsune are rooted in history and resistant to change.Users of this type of element can terra form and pretty much control earth to their hearts desire.
Fire - Quick tempered and reactionary, Fire Kitsune are constantly moving and very emotional.With this elemental magic, a Kitsune can create, manipulate, and control fire.
River- Natural healers, these Kitsune are quiet and peaceful.This elemental magic allows the user to create and control water. They can also heal with this magic as water is the life bringing element.
Ocean - Furious and tempestuous, these Kitsune are natural warriors.A user of this element can cause storms, floods, and even tsunamis. Although to do this, a Kitsune would have to live close to the sea.
Forest- Quiet and serene, these Kitsune watch those around themselves. Once satisfied, with what they see, they become playful and mischievous.This element magic is the ability to control and manipulate wood, plants, and any type of flora. They are also druidic in ability with being able to survive and blend in with the forest.
Mountain - Distant, these Kitsune are withdrawn, silent, and prefer to observe before acting.The elemental magic of this type is the ability to cause earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and even landslides.
Thunder - These Kitsune are loud and arrogant, full of pride.The user of this elemental magic allows the user to throw lightning, cause storms, and even create shields of energy.
Celestial - Protective and noble, these Kitsune believe they must guard all under their domain.A user of this type of element can teleport, use basic non-elemental magic, and even throw meteors from the heavens at targets.
Dark- Dark and brooding, these Kitsune are more malicious and very protective of their domains.With this element, the user can cause blights, drain life, become invisible in the shadows, and even drain the light from areas.
Attributes
Fox Magic– The innate magical abilities that is unique to the KitsuneIllusions – The ability to create illusions
Shape shifting – The ability to morph their form from that of a fox, a humanistic form, or that of their true form, a spirit fox which can only be achieved through an astral projection like capacity.Kitsune Ball - A small ball of focused power created by Kitsunes. These balls look like small white spheres that can easily be mistaken for a child's toy. They are the focus for Kitsunes ability and also houses their spirit. Kitsunes enjoy playing with this ball and can also use it as a simple weapon as that of a ball. If someone was to get their hands on a Kitsune ball, they can coerce the Kitsune into helping them. Heightened Senses - The ability to be more aware of their surroundings than others.Elemental Magic - The ability to use magic that is connected with the elements that surrounds the user of said magic.Telepathy - The ability to communicate to another solely by use of the mind.
